After working on the same topic all semester, it is hard for me to finally end it in a persuasion presentation and paper. This is bad of me to say but I don't care about my topic as much as I used to and I don't expect others to either. I don't even know what point I want to get across. I also feel like my topic, the treatment of Alzheimer's in home care compared to residential care facilities, is only interesting to those who have had personal dealings with Alzheimer's or for those who wish to work with Alzheimer's in their career.
My ideas of what to give my presentation on are as follows
- Argue that home care is better than residential care facilities - Audience = general public
- Aruge that residential care facilities are better than home care - Audience = general public
- Rehab should be an integral part of Alzheimer's treatment - Audience=Drs.
Let me know what you would be most interested in hearing of if you have any other ideas.

Heather,
ReplyDeleteI understand your frustration with your topic. I find myself going back and forth about what to emphasize and whether I know what I need to persuay my audience of exactly. I think all of our topics are important, but the reason they are problems are because they are complex situations that may not have a concrete solution.
I think that in order to be effective you should address the audience of us, the general public AND doctors. I think rehab as an integral part of treatment is what I would be most interested in hearing about, but the other argument should also be addressed briefly. Hopefully in today's class we will all be able to get input that will help us on our final persuasion presentation!
Hey Heather,
ReplyDeleteI can relate to your feelings of not caring as much about your topic as you did for the first two papers. Since you are now pretty much an expert in your topic, having done a lot of research, I understand it's hard to convey this information succinctly to others who are unfamiliar with the topic. Personally, I would be interested in hearing about how rehab should be an integral part of Alzheimer's treatment, but maybe your audience could be the general public instead of only doctors. I think doctors might be a bit more challenging to persuade because they have entrenched views on patient care. You could consider gearing your argument towards first year medical students whose opinions are more malleable, or just increase general awareness. I look forward to seeing your presentation!
